It was the first day of the last sitting in the Ontario Legislature before the next provincial election and the NDP is taking the Ford Government to task for a lack of action in the protests in Ottawa.
The New Democrats are asking the provincial government to provide financial assistance to Ottawa businesses affected by the Freedom Convoy for the past three weeks.
Party leader Andrea Horwath says many small businesses had to close and employees were unable to get paid.
“Will this government step up now to support those workers who lost so much because they didn’t move quickly enough, because the premier decided to sit on his hands and could have ended this sooner, but chose not to,” Horwath said in Question Period.
Finance Minister Peter Bethanfelvy says they will be making an announcement the days ahead.
“We recognize these are very unique circumstances, and that’s why I will have more to say in the very near future about supporting those businesses.”
The federal government has already indicated it will provide $20 million to Ottawa businesses affected by the recent protests.
