The town of Fort Frances is considering the idea of eliminating non-resident user fees applied to some of its programs and services.
Pending final council approval, a trial could see non-residents paying the same to access community services like the arena and pool as residents.
Currently, non-residents pay about 25 per cent more than residents.
Recreation and Culture Manager Aaron Bisson says of the 440 members now using the Memorial Sports Centre 40 are non-residents.
He feels non-resident fees are a barrier to others accessing the services.
He says they would need to attract at least eight new full-time members to offset any review loss.
“And then say we jumped it to 20 people, it’s actually lowering the burden on the rest of the town,” says Bisson.
Currently, user fees are about 25 per cent higher for non-residents than residents.
The issue is likely to come before the full council on Monday.
