For the second year in a row, Fort Frances has a close connection to the Stanley Cup final.
Jon Gustasfson is a team vice-president with the San Jose Sharks, responsible for its ice facilities, merchandising and AHL farm club.
He starred in goal with the Fort Frances Muskies in the mid ’80’s and was part of the team’s first ever provincial championship in 1986.
Speaking from San Jose, Gustafson tells CFOB-News it’s an exciting time for the Sharks who are making their first ever final appearance in 25 years.
Gustafson says fans are really embracing team, noting the strong demand for Sharks merchandise.
Gustafson couldn’t say if he will get a day with the Cup if the Sharks win the series, or whether he would bring it back to his hometown.
Last year, Chicago Blackhawks defenceman Duncan Keith brought the Cup to Fort Frances, the town were he got his minor hockey start.
