Canada’s Governor General is encouraging people to be active in 2018.
Julie Payette made her first New Year’s message while skating at an outdoor rink at Rideau Hall with her son Laurier.
Payette says being outside is one of her favourite things to do this time of year.

“There are no shortage of ways–and no shortage of excuses, either–to come out and enjoy the Canadian winter.”
Payette says the arrival of a new year is also a good time to think about people we love, and encourages us to lend a hand to those in need.
She also encourages Canadians to help keep our country open, tolerant, respectful, and progressive. (File Photo)
