For the first time in over 30 years, voters in Kenora-Rainy River have selected a PC candidate to represent them at Queen’s Park.
Former federal cabinet minister Greg Rickford won by a margin of over 12-hundred votes.
“It feels extraordinary. Public service is my passion. Folks in Kenora-Rainy River have sent a guy they can count on to get results in this region.”
NDP candidate Glen Archer was second in voting, calling his run a thrilling experience.
The Liberals Karen Kejick finished a distant third earning just 21-hundred votes compared to the nearly 97-received by Rickford.
The last time a PC represented the Rainy River area was in 1985 when voters elected Jack Pierce.
The Kenora area was represented at the same time by Leo Bernier who held that former riding since 1966 before retiring in 1987.
The NDP had held the riding since 1999 when the two former ridings were merged as one.
