The Fire Chief of the Fort Frances Fire and Rescue Service wants to add more volunteer firefighters to the roster.
Tyler Moffitt is asking town council to approve the increase from 20 to 30 with 10 being placed on an auxiliary reserve list.
The department now has 17 volunteers.
In a report to council, Moffitt states new training regulations next year will require any volunteer firefighter hired to be certified within two years.
Moffitt says the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs recommends departments hire as many volunteers as possible now to save on the time and money on the certification process.
Council is expected to decide on the matter tonight.
