Liberal leader Kathleen Wynne is explaining further the reasons behind her conceding defeat in the provincial election.
Speaking on TVO’s The Agenda last night, Wynne says when polling numbers failed to change in her favour after the last leader’s debate, she felt it necessary to get out of the way to help Liberal candidates.
“I said to my team we’ve got to figure out if there’s something we can do to get out of the way,” says Wynne. “I was hearing from candidates and from people in the province that they wanted change, they didn’t want a Liberal government, and they didn’t want me to be Premier. So if my getting out of the way and saying ‘look you’re going to get change because it’s not going to be Liberal government and therefore I won’t be Premier.’ If that helps my candidates to talk to voters and say ‘you can vote for me because you know locally I will be your best voice at Queen’s Park then that’s what I needed to do.”
Wynne says the objective now is to get as many Liberals elected to Queens Park to avoid a majority government.
